The library database, Points of View Reference Center, would be helpful for your writing. Go to Research Databases by Title and select Points of View Reference Center (can also access from Databases by Subject > Issues/Controversies). Under Reference Shelf on the right select "See all research guides." There are 20 different articles on writing--choosing a topic, topic sentence, thesis statement, evaluating a website, and more.
Another library database, Credo Reference, has brief video clips in the Research Quick Tips section (scroll to find)--How to Select a Topic, How to Find Relevant Sources, How to Avoid Bias in Your Searches, Using Pre-Research to Understand Your Topic, What to Do When your Topic is Too Broad, and Why You Need Many Sources.
